Welcome to Whispers of the Past.

This project is built on a simple belief, that by understanding the past, we can better understand who we are today, and even glimpse where we may be headed in the future.

Through the history of the Shin family, from the Joseon Dynasty to the Republic of Korea, I explore how war, political change, and economic systems shaped generations, how people adapted, survived, invested, migrated, and rebuilt their lives.

My main academic interest is economics, and many of these posts examine how historical decisions and economic structures influenced opportunities, social mobility, and long-term outcomes across generations.

Ultimately, my goal is to preserve my family’s history as accurately as possible, while using it to understand how the forces of the past continue to shape the present, and the choices we make about the future.
